Who We Are

Who We Are

At ComplyEdge, we specialise in simplifying Compliance and Risk Management for Australian businesses across multiple disciplines.

Our mission is personal. We believe no one should lose what they've built because the rules were too complex or the right help was out of reach. Behind every business is a family, a team, and years of someone's life. Our work is to help protect all of it, with practical guidance that makes compliance clear, manageable, and something you can face with confidence.

ComplyEdge was created with small businesses in mind. After more than 15 years in regulatory compliance and risk management across banking, finance, and professional services, I kept seeing the same thing: the expertise that protects major institutions rarely reaches the businesses that need it most. I started this firm to change that. When we work with you, we're not selling documents. We're in your corner.

That's why clients treat us as a partner rather than a supplier. We listen first, give you plain-english guidance, and carry the regulatory burden so you can get back to running the business you set out to build.

Frequently Asked Questions

ABOUT COMPLYEDGE

What makes ComplyEdge different from other compliance consultancies?

Most compliance firms give you documentation. We give you a defensible position. ComplyEdge was built on the premise that compliance, done properly, is a strategic asset and not an administrative burden. Our principal brings over a decade of Big 4 banking and advisory experience, a Juris Doctor, and a track record across Australia's most complex regulatory environments. We do not outsource your work, we do not assign juniors to your file, and we do not disappear after the engagement kicks off. You get direct, senior level advisory every time. The difference shows in the outcome.

Who is ComplyEdge best suited for?

We work with Australian SMBs and their leadership teams including founders, directors, and C-suite executives who take their obligations seriously and want a trusted expert in their corner. Our clients span real estate, accounting, legal services, financial services, technology, retail, healthcare, and construction. If your business is navigating a new regulatory obligation, building a compliance function from scratch, or dealing with a gap that could become a liability, ComplyEdge is built for that conversation.

Do I need a large business to engage ComplyEdge?

No. In fact, smaller and mid-sized businesses often face the highest risk exposure precisely because they lack the internal compliance infrastructure of a large corporate. Our advisory model is specifically designed for SMBs and is scalable, cost-effective, and built to give growing businesses the calibre of compliance support that was previously only accessible to enterprise clients.

AUSTRAC / AML/CTF TRANCHE 2

What is AML/CTF Tranche 2 and does it apply to my business?

Tranche 2 represents the most significant expansion of Australia's anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing regime in nearly two decades. From 1 July 2026, thousands of Australian professional services firms including real estate agents, accountants, lawyers, conveyancers, and dealers in precious metals and stones will be captured under the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006 for the first time. AUSTRAC enrolment opens 31 March 2026. If your business provides a designated service under the expanded regime, enrolment is mandatory and not optional. The penalties for non-compliance are significant and include civil and criminal consequences. If you are unsure whether you are captured, the answer is almost certainly yes, and you should find out immediately.

What happens if I miss the 31 March 2026 AUSTRAC enrolment deadline or the 1 July 2026 compliance date?

Missing these deadlines is not a procedural oversight. It is a regulatory breach. AUSTRAC has broad enforcement powers, including the ability to issue infringement notices, impose civil penalties, and refer matters for criminal prosecution. Beyond the direct legal consequences, a failure to enrol or comply creates lasting reputational damage and can affect your professional licences and client relationships. The time to act is now and not when you receive a notice.

What does AML/CTF compliance actually require my business to do?

At a minimum, Tranche 2 obligations will require your business to enrol with AUSTRAC, designate a compliance officer, develop and implement an AML/CTF Program covering both Part A and Part B, conduct customer due diligence including enhanced due diligence for higher risk customers, train staff on their obligations, and submit annual compliance reports. The depth and complexity of each requirement will depend on your business model, the designated services you provide, and your risk profile. Getting this right from the outset is materially easier and cheaper than remediation after the fact.

How quickly can ComplyEdge get my business AUSTRAC enrolled and compliant?

For businesses that engage us promptly, we can move efficiently. We will assess your obligations, classify your designated services, guide you through AUSTRAC enrolment, and build your AML/CTF Program in a structured, staged engagement. The more lead time we have before the July 2026 deadline, the more robust the outcome. Businesses leaving this to the final weeks will face significant capacity constraints industry wide including our own. We recommend engaging now.

CORE SERVICES

What does a Compliance Health Check involve?

A Compliance Health Check is a structured diagnostic of your business's current regulatory posture. We assess your existing policies, procedures, and controls against applicable legal and regulatory requirements, identify gaps and exposure points, and deliver a prioritised remediation roadmap. It is designed for business leaders who want an honest, independent view of where they stand and not a rubber stamp exercise. Most of our clients find it immediately clarifying, and it frequently surfaces issues that, left unaddressed, would have become materially costly.

What is a Regulatory Framework and why does my business need one?

A regulatory framework is the architecture that governs how your business identifies, manages, and reports on its compliance obligations. Without one, compliance becomes reactive and you discover obligations when you breach them. A well-designed framework embeds compliance into your operations so that it functions as a system and not a checklist. ComplyEdge designs bespoke regulatory frameworks calibrated to your industry, risk appetite, and growth trajectory. It is, in our view, the single most important investment a scaling business can make in its governance infrastructure.

What does Enterprise Risk Management advisory look like in practice?

ERM advisory with ComplyEdge means working at the intersection of strategy and risk. We help you identify the risks that matter across regulatory, operational, reputational, and financial dimensions, map them to your business model, and build the management structures to govern them effectively. This is not a theoretical exercise. Our deliverables are practical, board ready, and designed to stand up to scrutiny from regulators, investors, and auditors. If your risk function is underdeveloped relative to the complexity of your business, this is where to start.

What is an embedded compliance partner and how does it work?

For select clients, ComplyEdge operates as an embedded compliance partner, functioning in effect as your outsourced Head of Compliance or Chief Risk Officer without the overhead of a full time hire. We attend leadership meetings, advise on live regulatory issues as they arise, manage ongoing compliance obligations, and serve as the senior compliance voice in your business. This model is particularly effective for high growth SMBs navigating rapid regulatory change who need consistent, senior level coverage without building an internal function prematurely.

Do you assist with breach response and regulatory investigations?

Yes. Regulatory breaches and AUSTRAC, ASIC, or Fair Work investigations require immediate, expert led response. Delays, incomplete disclosures, or poorly framed communications to regulators can compound the original issue significantly. ComplyEdge provides structured breach response advisory by assessing the nature and severity of the breach, advising on voluntary disclosure obligations, managing regulator communications, and implementing the remediation necessary to demonstrate corrective action. In these situations, the quality of advice in the first 48 hours is often determinative.

What risk assessment services does ComplyEdge provide?

We conduct tailored risk assessments across a range of regulatory and operational contexts including AML/CTF inherent risk assessments, enterprise risk assessments, conduct risk reviews, and product compliance assessments. Our methodology is rigorous, documented, and designed to produce outputs that are defensible with regulators. We treat risk assessments not as box ticking exercises but as genuine intelligence tools that sharpen your decision making and demonstrate to any regulator or counterparty that your risk management function is credible.

EMPLOYMENT AND IR COMPLIANCE

What employment and industrial relations compliance support does ComplyEdge provide?

Australia's employment and IR landscape is among the most complex in the developed world, and the consequences of getting it wrong including underpayments, unfair dismissal claims, enterprise agreement misinterpretation, and modern award breaches are significant and increasingly public. ComplyEdge provides practical advisory on employment compliance obligations, IR framework design, contract and policy review, and ongoing advisory to ensure your people practices are legally sound and operationally robust. We work alongside your HR function, or in the absence of one.

ENGAGEMENT AND PROCESS

What happens in the initial consultation?

The initial consultation is a no obligation, confidential conversation. We use that time to understand your business, the regulatory environment you operate in, the obligations you are aware of, and the gaps you are concerned about. At the end of that conversation, you will have a clear sense of the risk exposure you face and the most appropriate advisory pathway. There is no sales pressure. Our view is that if the fit is right, that will be self-evident.

How do you tailor your advice to my specific business?

We do not operate from templates. Every engagement begins with a thorough understanding of your business model, industry, risk profile, and objectives. Our recommendations are calibrated to where you actually are and not where a generic compliance framework assumes you should be. Practical, proportionate, and commercially grounded advice is the standard we hold ourselves to on every mandate.

Do you work with businesses outside of Sydney?

Yes. While ComplyEdge is headquartered in Sydney's Barangaroo, we work with Australian businesses nationally. Many of our engagements are conducted remotely without any loss of quality or responsiveness. If your compliance challenge requires on-site presence, that can be arranged.

How are your fees structured?

Our fees are tailored to the scope, complexity, and duration of each engagement. We do not apply a one size fits all pricing model because no two businesses present the same risk profile or require the same level of advisory intensity. We are transparent about costs from the outset, and our fee proposals are structured to reflect genuine value delivered and not hours on a clock. Contact us to discuss your specific requirements and we will provide a clear, obligation free proposal.

Do you provide compliance training for our team?

Yes. Compliance frameworks are only as effective as the people operating within them. ComplyEdge delivers training sessions tailored to your business and industry covering regulatory obligations, internal policy application, AML/CTF staff awareness, and practical scenario based learning for your team. Our training is designed to be engaging, relevant, and immediately applicable and not a compliance recitation that your people will forget by Friday afternoon.

What experience does ComplyEdge's principal bring to client engagements?

ComplyEdge is led by Tarun Mago, a Juris Doctor qualified compliance and risk professional with over a decade of experience across Big 4 banking institutions and major advisory firms. He has held senior compliance and risk roles spanning AML/CTF, enterprise risk, product compliance, conduct risk, and governance frameworks across retail, institutional, and technology led business environments. When you engage ComplyEdge, you are not handed to a junior. Tarun leads every engagement directly. That is a deliberate design choice and not a coincidence.

How do I get started?

Contact us through the website, call directly, or book a free consultation. We respond within 48 hours and usually sooner. If your matter is urgent, call. We are built for businesses that take compliance seriously, and we will treat your time with the same respect.
